Historical Hysteria Round 2 Day 6: Oh, You Know, Whatever

Apr 21, 2010 14:03

After today, we have only one more match in Round 2. I guess this is one of those leftover days when I can't really think of a suitable way to match the contestants up. What do you want from me? I'm a busy lady. Go vote.

Howard Hughes

  • Born in Texas in 1905 to a descendant of a Tudor and an engineer who founded a lucrative tool company
  • Demonstrated an early aptitude for engineering and aviation, later also became an industrialist, film producer and director, and philanthropist
  • Suffered from debilitating obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • In 1947, spent four months living entirely in a screening room in a film studio, ingesting nothing but milk and chocolate
  • Worked those aviator goggles
  • Enjoyed watching movies with nothing but a pink hotel napkin to cover his shame
  • Towards the end of his life, associated almost exclusively with Mormons. He wasn't one, but he thought they were the only trustworthy people in the world.
  • Sorted peas by size with a special fork before eating them
  • Dated a massive number of famous, beautiful women

  • "I SAID GET IN."
  • Ran Ice Station Zebra on a continuous loop at least 150 times
  • Upon his death in 1976, he weighed approximately 90 lbs. (he was 6'2"), had extremely long hair and nails, broken hypodermic needles were still stuck in his arms, and he had to be identified by fingerprint
Josef Stalin

  • Leader of the Soviet Union from 1924-1953
  • Joined the Bolsheviks in his youth, where he spent his time spreading propaganda, organizing paramilitaries and strikes, robbing banks, kidnapping people, and committing extortion
  • Was sent to Siberia seven times, escaped six
  • Political philosophies and purges led to the deaths of approximately 700,000 people
  • On the other hand, his government created universal healthcare and education programs as well as giving girls equal education and women equal employment rights and spreading mass literacy campaigns
  • Luxuriant moustache
  • His son Yakov shot himself because of Stalin being such a bastard to him, but survived.  Stalin's response?  "He can't even shoot straight."  ICEBURN.
  • Young Stalin: I would tap that

  • Stalin's government had virtually total control over science, literature, and the arts
  • One of the "Big Three" in WWII
  • Known as the Kremlin Highlander.  OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS, HE'S THE HIGHLANDER.
