I've had such a lovely day (so far I suppose I should say) despite of the rather wintery weather...
I got ever so slightly frozen and soaked walking to the station (must have resembled something like a drowned rat as I got on the train) but thankfully it was so warm on the train my hair had mostly dried by the time I got to London (Pollyanna-ish I know but it's true :P)
I was going into London because I was given a ticket to see the final dress rehersal of Carmen at the Royal Opera House (by a member of my Lent Study group of all the strange places to get a ticket!)
I'd never seen Carmen before, though it's one of those operas where you know all the best songs long before you see it, and the story too, which was good as they ran out of "programmes" (actually a couple of sheets of paper with the synopsis and cast list and a reminder that we weren't to judge this as a performance!) I was sitting way back in the Upper Amphitheatre but I reckon (from my two visits) that you're fine at the back of the ROH it's just the slips you need to avoid...
Either way it was a great performance and I can only think of a handful of things I reckon they'll have fixed by the actual performances (and that's not even fair, one was that the Toreador himself sounded a little weak in the first half but I'm fairly convinced he was holding back because it was a rehersal). Either way I was VERY glad to have seen it as I'm not likely to get a chance to see the proper performance!
I returned home to find visitors for tea and now I have about 45 minutes to have supper and get changed before I head out for the Easter Eve Ceremonies (well a run through first) so of course I immediately came online... *is predictable*
(notice I don't mention the slight detour I took on the way home via Lush and Foyles... oops?)
