I don't know if other people notice this but I find that sometimes individual fandoms (or at least my experience of individual fandoms) have interesting personality quirks (yes fandoms have personalities, I'm fairly sure that's a given)
For example Stargate Atlantis has a ridiculous obsession with crackfic and more specifically turning our heroes into animals... mostly penguins. Cycling slash (which is a miniscule fandom anyway) tends, when it exists, to go for picspam quite a lot.
One of my favourite examples of this at the moment is the Supernatural fandom which has these, I'm not sure what they're called really but themed picspams or even photoessays. So that you'll get every picture of Sam Winchester sticking his tongue out or, an early fabourite of mine, a picspam that proves Dean always picks the bed nearest the exit.

moveablehistory which SPN fans should look at because it's awesome, and intelligent, and full of prettiful pictures *nods*
Amd because I like asking questions: Have any of you noticed particular trends in fandoms? Is Lost really all about the theorising and do other fandoms than HP have lots of RPGs?
