Three more things that need reviews added to the list this weekend which counts as a successful weekend but maybe just makes me ever more of an epic fail as a blogger? Still I'll try and manage at least one

(mostly because I'm hiding in the office this lunchtime so I don't strange any of my colleagues- I have just discovered that new person who doesn't drink any hot drinks might be untrustworthy on that count BUT it's probably all for the best because she currently has a "cold" (no visible signs) and is drinking hot lemsip and slurping it and if she keeps this up all winter I may snap. TBH if she keeps it up all afternoon I may snap!)

Anyway.

On Sunday afternoon I realised I was actually free during daylight hours and so there was a slight chance I might be able to catch Bill (curses on whoever decided it would count as a children's/family film thereby making it impossible for a huge swathe of its potential audience to actually see it!)

Did get a slightly odd look from the family next to me as I was the only solo adult in there but they soon got over that because the film was too fun for any other distractions to matter.

Bill

Can that be my review? Just that? Okay maybe I do have some other things to say but mostly I'm just incredibly glad that all the ridiculous joy and idiocy and random references and tiny details have been carried across from Horrible Histories and Yonderland to Bill and it's just BEAUTIFUL.

Though I'm pretty sure Ben just wrote himself a bunch of parts he wanted to play because he was having FAR too much fun as Southampton. Oh and letting Jim play a character obsess with playing ladies was a touch of genius too.

I'm mean it's very very silly, obviously, but it's also crammed full of actual Shakespeare lines sometimes as terrible jokes (the band Mortal Coil shuffling off) and sometimes more or less in an actual play but often just in conversation and they appeared more and more as Bill got more confident which was a beautiful touch.

I loved Hamlet's advice to the players showing up and I very nearly applauded Villain, Villain, Smiling Damned Villain but really there were hundreds and I'm sure I didn't catch them all.

It's historically inaccurate in almost every detail and it's so much fun, overflowing with ridiculous, joyous fun that I just want to see it again please.

(also I ship this version of Shakespeare & Marlowe along with many other versions)

(OH! Best bit ever was the "your Mum" running gag turning into a beautiful piece of shade thrown in the direction of Anonymous at the end... or maybe I was reading into it too much but that was definitely where my mind went!)

(she did not stop, I however did not snap *awards self brownie points for patience*)

shakespeare, horrible histories, films
