Sometimes when I want distraction/cheering up I'll go and wander through the Matt Bomer tag on tumblr only I keep forgetting that at the moment in amongst the White Collar stuff, the Matt being a model stuff and the occasional Magic Mike gif there are also pictures, posters & interviews from The Normal Heart which are beautiful but NOT happy place compliant...

(I'm assuming it'll be on TV here eventually although IDK why I'm assuming that *crosses fingers*)

Review (kinda) time! This weekend included the always wonderful Festival of the Spoken Nerd because we got tickets to see (hear?) them record a pilot for a potential Radio 4 show and OH GOD I want them to get a series so badly *crosses everything*

I have no clue if they're going to actually put the pilot on the radio or not so IDK if you wish to read this or not but here it is under a cut as much for my memory as for everyone else *g*

I was a little uncertain as to what to expect give so much of the FoSN thing involves experiments and Steve setting stuff on fire which works less well on the radio but what they'd gone for was a theme (opening a restaurant) and then a series of sketches/skits which combined comedy and science and then occasionally they'd pause for an actual explanation (still humorous of course).

As well as Steve, Matt & Helen they'd roped in two actors "to do funny voices"- Tom Crowley and Celeste... yeah I forgot her surname because I'm the WORST. They were both brilliant though and managed to be professional whilst also clearly enjoying themselves. Tom also pointed out a mistake in the script in such a way as to endear him to most of the audience forever (we're keeping Tom & Celeste, I've decreed)

There was a lot of bad puns for restaurant names, jokes about fusion cooking v. nuclear fusion, Matt coming up with elaborate checking systems to make sure orders are right using endless parsnips and ice cream and Helen trying to sort of the wait staff (and solve the Travelling Salesman problem along the way).

It was utterly silly and if I tried to repeat any of the jokes they'd only fall flat but I particularly loved their introductions where they explained how Venn diagrams of the FoSN worked (Matt + Helen = an Australian lady in glasses aka Dame Edna) and I also adored Helen's far too truthful advertising jingles. She also sang Statistically I Love You which is one of my favourite of her songs <3

I also just loved watching them record. The fact that they crack each other (and themselves up) ALL THE TIME even when working from a script (so hardly any of it can have been new to them!) makes me so happy and it's just so much fun watching entertainers enjoying themselves. Plus the odd mistake (why isn't this microphone working... maaaaaaybe it should be switched on? *tech comes and changes the batteries*) are always fun to see and the fact that both Matt & Steve are inclined to greet any slightly disbelieving laughter with "it's true!" and then an explanation always pleases me.

FoSN really do bring together a lot of my favourite things- comedy and science and sketches and explosions and attractive people who clearly like each other a lot and I just really REALLY want this to be an actual radio show.

So that was fun <3

Today it's our first Rainbows of term with 4 new girls (yay) and 1 leader out sick (boo) so I'm sure that will go well.

ps Tony Award nominations are out and whilst I was hoping/assuming Mark Rylance would get an acting nod so did Samuel Barnett ♥

I'm so overjoyed for him whilst simultaneously being a little confused because Mark got a lead actor nom for Richard III but also/only a supporting actor nom for Twelfth Night and he was Olivia! Mind you I guess Viola is the lead in Twelfth Night and I'm so happy for Sam (and sad that I'll never get to see him as Viola). ALSO 3/5th of the Supporting Actor noms are for Twelfth Night (Mark, Stephen Fry and the UTTERLY fabulous Paul Chahidi)

There are a lot of British names in those nominations! :D
