So I'm still not sure which bookmarking site will win out in the end but it has to be said that the guy behind Pinboard is winning ALL the points for working with fandom and actually seeing the potential rather than EW ICKY SLASH.
The Fans Are All Right is his blog about what's going on, at least partly written I think to try and calm the existing Pinboard users for whom this must be a bit of a nightmare. It actually gets me kind of tear-y reading someone outside fandom recognising the collaborative nature of fandom and how much talent and enthusiasm we can bring (when not getting distracted writing
anthropomorfic about the relevant websites ♥)
And for me? Well I really like what I've seen of Pinboard so far but there's still a lot missing (bundles!) and there is always the fact that you have to pay :-| but I think I'll happily use it for the moment AND because you can export your bookmarks I can always move again if necessary. I just need to get better about remembering to dl them once a month or so... I SUCH at backups.
ETA I forgot! I also kind of love the "read later" thing on Pinboard, I only wish I could get away with having it in my browser at work :-P AND I also sort of love the "note" feature- I like to collect quotes from places and although I haven't used it yet I can see I probably will in the future
(my super secret long term plan/hope is that when AO3 get their bookmarks working properly I'll move my fannish bookmarks over there and use something like Pinboard- probably Pinboard after this week- for some of my other stuff like recipes and maybe get better at bookmarking interesting articles etc. I'm not entirely sure though)
