Came home needing to decompress a bit so I curled up with my current book and ended up reading the whole thing *g*
It was Bradley Wiggins' autobiography which
mandragora1 gave me for Christmas and I felt should be read after I read Cav's.
It was kind of hysterical. Wiggins wrote his shortly after Beijing so he says towards the end that Cav's still not talking to him (though he was by the paperback's epilogue) and yet it has to be said that pretty much every reference to Cav pre-Beijing is GLOWING if not almost gushing by Wiggins standards! TBH from my biased point of view it read like someone who kind of knew he ought to be trying to make things up to Cav a bit. That said I did enjoy it and whilst I still don't actually like the guy it was very interesting reading about his early road career and the whole hideous Cofidis mess (during which he was rooming with Sylvain Chavanel (
blue_ant take note :P)
It's also fascinating how lightly he talks about his drinking, VERY heavy at times, with only one moment when he acknowledges that his father was an alcoholic and it ruined him. I thought he'd stopped drinking a couple of years ago but it's clearly not true, he's just cut back. But he seems to be happy so *shrugs*
Of course with Wiggins there's also pages and pages of praise of the Individual Pursuit (and the Team Pursuit of course) and a whole bit about how he's looking forward to retaining his title in London that made me sad and angry again, especially as he also really pushed that he thought there should be equality between men and women's events BY ADDING MORE. *sighs* Still not over that.
It's an interesting read, and I have to say I was utterly enthralled when he was talking about the "battle of the Brads" because I remember vividly watching that and being so torn because Wiggins = Brit but I really liked Brad McGee *g* I was glad Wiggins won in the end though. I tend to be mostly... he's a very impressive track rider and I respect that and it was really cool reading more details about the Pursuit guys and their training. I just don't think I'll ever be a total Brad Wiggins fan.
Anyway. Then we watched the Simpsons and it was Daniel Radcliffe's Twilight parody one <3 and then I watch the "new" Criminal Minds (creepy child unsubs are always sad and the end of the episode made me cry) and now I'm watching old episodes because that's nice and mindless.
