I thought the ep on the whole was pretty decent - well, except for the last few minutes, which were AMAZING, but more on that in a minute. ( Spoilers! )
I also loved that Sam is worried-very worried- that his big brother is going crazy. It's so nice of the show to show Sam's protective side again.
Yes, absolutely. I've just been so worried about Dean and his depression/alcoholism/suicidal thoughts lately (that sounds stupid to say about a fictional character but you know what I mean), but... Sam definitely had his own issues to take care of. It's not like Sam is in the clear now, but maybe they can work together to make Dean at least a little better.
And I agree about the fun, fluffy thing. In a season like this, honestly, we need episodes like this and the Plucky Pennywhistle one, which are genuinely fun and funny. And this was more emotionally deep than 7.14, in a subtle way.
Basically this one episode gave me a lot of hope that maybe, at the end of the season, things'll be okay. Or as okay as they ever get on the show, lol. That it'll be a cliffhanger ending, but a All Hell Breaks Loose cliffhanger as opposed to like, a No Rest For the Wicked cliffhanger. Well this episode and the fact that Robert Singer did say they wanted to make S8 less angsty. (Though I should add that the end of 6.18 makes me extremely :D too, and we all know what happened after that lol :( )
