I caught Alex doing the cutest thing today. I was on the couch relaxing and Alex was watching a cartoon this afternoon. After a while of playing and watching toons, I fell asleep for a little bit and woke up to hear Alex pretending he was talking on the phone to Daddy! It was too cute to hear him talk about having Daddy come home and go bike riding with him and to stay home from work so he could spend time with him. He looked over in my direction and I pretended to still be asleep and he went through the whole phone call again. It was adorable!
Some times Alex gets a little sensitive to being caught pretending to do something. He doesn't like to be surprised like that. He gets embarrassed really easy. So later on after he pretended I asked him to come over while I was getting dinner ready and I told him that I had heard him "pretending" and that I thought it was neat and that he can pretend anytime! I like it when he pretends. He smiled at me and said okay. Then went back to playing.
So I mentioned that last week I did some painting in Alexander's room. I'm still not completely finished so I haven't taken any photos to share yet. But yesterday and today I put glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and Alex just LOVES IT! Today I finished putting on the rest of the package, and a few on Ethan's ceiling too just so he has a few to look at. Alex just loves it. I told him maybe I'll get some more to cover the rest of his ceiling with them. I didn't have enough to finish the whole thing. Ethan kept trying to climb up the ladder behind me, it was making me nervous.
It's nice to see the boys room starting to look more and more like I little boys room. Alex continues to sleep well in the bunk bed, I've seen him get in and out of it late at night when he is half awake to use the bathroom and he hasn't fallen down yet. I was a little worried about that at first.
One more thing we did before we went to bed tonight was talk about brushing our teeth. We'll be going to see the dentist again in about a week, so we talked more than we usually do tonight about how we take care of our teeth and why it is important. It was a good conversation. His first appointment 6 months ago was actually a really good appointment so I'm hoping that he'll do good again this time. I have him practicing brushing his own teeth too. Maybe I've been brushing his teeth for too long? I don't know the best age to make them do it themselves but I want to make sure that it gets done well first and then he can practice. Seems sensible to me. He'll be able to do it himself soon. We tried flossing this evening and it was a good experience.
We had
Family Home Evening Sunday night because Mike has a class he is taking Monday nights and we want to be able to have
FHE every week. Alex was asking me tonight if we were going to have it again. He was disappointed that we only have it once a week. I'll have to keep that in mind when he is a teenager and drags his feet about having FHE.
He is excited to be getting ready to turn 6 this year. He's asked me a few times when he'll be turning six and when Ethan will be turning 2. It's crazy that the boys are getting so big so fast!
He started preschool again today, since he was off on winter break for the holidays. He actually surprised us all, he did good today. The only time we had any little issues was when I first dropped him off this morning. He was a little hesitant at first to go in. But he didn't cause a scene. Guess he really missed not being in preschool! His teacher said that he was great the rest of the time too. You never know if they will be out of sorts getting back into the same routine when they have been out of it for two and a half weeks.
Nite!
