Went to the hardware store, bought some items, total was $6.58. I handed the guy a $20 and started looking at a flashlight.
After a couple of seconds I realize that the guy is acting odd, and then see him drag out his cell phone (same as the one She-Who-Is has).
"Ummm... whats up?" I asked.
"I hit the wrong button and have to figure out the change"
"$13.42"
He played with buttons for a bit and then looked at me kinda shocked, "Umm... yeah. You're right. I... ah... had to do it on the phone. Just to double check my numbers".
New math: They don't teach it any more, but damn it, It worked.
Round 6.58 up to 7.
Subtract 7 from 20 to get 13.
Round 0.58 up to 0.60
Subtract 0.60 from 1.00 to get 0.40.
Now add in the 0.02 you added to the 0.58.
$13.42
Takes me a 100 times longer to type it then to do the math.
Schools didn't like it as it let kids get a close answer, and then pick the right answer on the multiple-guess standardized test.
