Quick music notes

I really should be sleeping. Fortunately, at least, at the moment I plan on doing absolutely nothing tomorrow night. I need to be productive during the day though.

Some new (to me) stuff lately:

  • Bola - Fyuti: This is the second Bola album I've heard (the first was Soup), and I think it's essential listening for those interested in IDM.
  • I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness - Self-titled EP: First heard of the band from somebody claiming that they sound "post-punk like Joy Division". With that endorsement, and that band name, I thought that it's trendy shit à la Panic! at the Disco. What I heard was decent indie rock, didn't blow me away but didn't make my ears bleed either.
  • Aloof Proof - Inside the Quiet: Almost like the most minimal of Aphex Twin's work. I like to put it on in the office.
  • Iron & Wine - Woman King EP: Actually I've had this EP for a while but I've just realized how awesome it is, especially "Jezebel".

And some concerts:

  • Fischerspooner: I admit my reason for attending is more to socialize than to enjoy the music. It ended up being quite fun, although I still question whether it's worth the money since the part that's the most fun is the random dancing after the concert.
  • Herbert: Wasn't overly impressed by the album, but the concert was great. My favorite parts: the opening layered, distorted welcometotheshowWelcomeToTheShowwelcomeTotheShow..., crushing a coke can and sampling. Love the bathrobes too...
  • Jean-Jacques Perrey/Dana Countryman: Perrey is awesome. If I'm ever going to become a 70 year old guy, I'd like to play cheesy electronic music live, make peace signs at the camera, and tell people to "be happy and keep smiling!"
  • The Advantage: I'm sorry but I don't get a band that only covers video game music.
  • DFA DJs: James Murphy's all right as a DJ. I still love the guy though.

herbert, concerts, bola, iron & wine, jean-jacques perrey, i love you but i've chosen darkness, fischerspooner, james murphy, music, advantage, aloof proof
