So. I just finished watching the Bones finale which was fantastic in sooo many ways. I don't really know how much of that was real, but who cares? It was like, the best Alternate Universe ever and Zack was there. Zack. And Sweets and the whole host of replacement Zacks were all there too. Never mind that Booth and Brennen were... Well, I don't want to spoil anything more than I already have. Lets just day it was orgasmic. Which is a word I don't use very often, but love to pieces.
What I actually want to talk about is something that's kind of universal to tv lately and is kind of bugging me. Has anyone else noticed how a lot of strong female characters have been trying to get pregnant/adopt a kid lately? Three that pop out immediately are Temperance Brennen from Bones, Lisa Cuddy from House, and Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. I think it's interesting for a few reasons.
Fist of all, I find it kind of out of the blue that these characters wish to have children. I haven't watched House in a while, but from what I've understood (correct me if I'm wrong) none of these characters really wished to have children in seasons prior. Brennen in particular sticks out in my memory as saying in season 1 that she didn't even want kids. Why the change?
Second, I must state that I look at television as a medium of art that is very readily available to the public. Therefore I believe that, like art, television reflects the society it comes from. That makes me wonder, are more single, independent women wanting kids now? Why?
Has anyone else noticed this? Is anyone else bothered by it? I truly am curious to know what other people think of this. Are the three, parallel plot lines linked in some way? Or are they all completely unrelated and independent from each other and the real world? Is it a real-life phenomena as well as a television phenomena?
