Of Books and Birthdays

W00T! So it's my birthday today.  Summer's already half-way over which is not cool but oh well *shrugs*.

Weird random fact about my birthday: In my lovely state of Oregon it has never rained on my birthday in a hundred and sixteen years(But it's raining right now).

And so because of this momentous occasion I hereby dedicate my new blog to the reviewing of books and some other things I'll think up later!

And because I finished it last night: my first review will be of His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik.

This book was very good, and adds yet another twist to the genre of dragon fiction ( the fantasy genre has so many books about dragons we should just give them their own genre).

His Majesty's Dragon takes place during the Napoleonic wars (1800-1815) and is about Capt. Will Laurence as he is forced to leave his Navy life to join the Aerial Corps.  Great characters in this book, the dragons themselves are wonderful (Temeraire is so cool!)  We have people to love and hate, we have a 'wait you can't break them up I like them together' moment in the beginning of the book, and we have a 'HOLY CRAP!  That's soooo effing cool!' moment at the end and now I eagerly await for the next two to arrive at my hold in the library.

Next review will be of Dead Witch Walking sometime in the next few days.

Now to watch a Humphrey Bogart Film.

'Til then,
Kael
