Demon Wind
College kids that get stuck in a house (that doesn't exist) and are killed one at a time by demons. The prosthetics were admirable, but that's about it. Grade: C-
Urban Legend
My wife was a big advocate for this one. I've never been a big fan of late 90s movies about teenagers, and this film is a prime example of why. Everyone was self centered and deserved what they got. I want a hero (or villain) to root for. Grade: D-
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
hough not as good as the first film, it's still a fun romp with Venom. I must still insist that Carnage should have been fire engine red, not rusty orange. Grade: C+
Venom: The Last Dance
This movie had a bigger budget for special effects than the others, which was both positive and negative. I hate we never did get a face-to-face with Spider-Man, but we did get some other symbiotes which is cool. Grade: C+
Tales From The Hood
I'd heard the name for decades, so I finally thought I should sit down and watch it. The writers/director/producers wanted some really good reason to kill people, so racist cops and politicians got their comeuppance. Too heavy handed for my taste. Grade: D-
The Man Who Laughs
The silent movie that inspired the look of The Joker, 'The Man Who Laughs' isn't really a horror movie, but a tale of heartache about a man who was disfigured as a child and has a perpetual grin on his face. He's constantly laughed at his entire life, and his only love is the blind woman he saved as a baby. The grin matched with the pain of loneliness in his eyes can at times be disturbing. Grade: B
Trick 'r Treat
A "little movie that could". A series of shorts stories interwoven about Halloween night in a small town. It's both fantastical and gruesome. Grade: B+
Parents
A kid who's parents are cannibals. He's got PTSD because of the whole thing, but doesn't know how to articulate it. Boring movie. So much potential for comedy. Grade: D
Abigail
A suggestion since I've had so many duds this year. It was a breath of fresh, blood-drenched air. If anyone tells you to stay in an old mansion over night for ANY reason, DON'T! Morons. Some fun acting and fun gore. Grade: B
Oddity
Another suggestion. A psychic, blind twin uses a witch's golem to find her sister's murderer. It's a very sparse movie in regards to sets and plot, but it's very effective with what it has. Grade: B+
Invasion of the Astro-Monster
Godzilla's second battle against King Ghidorah. The plot on this one moves along at a decent pace, and there is an American as one of the lead character which is kinda neat. Sadly, the monsters get very little screen time in this one. Grade: C+
