My little Mandi is in the hospital. Jim had gotten me a bouquet of flowers for our anniversary last week that had a few tiger lilies in it. Today the lilies opened up and she got into them. I found her in the kitchen playing with a few of the orangey-stem things from the middle of the flower. Her face was all stained orange. We looked it up online, and apparantly, lilies are pretty toxic plants for cats. They cause renal failure and if left untreated, can cause a cat to die in less than a week. So, we rushed her to the vet hospital. They gave her some drugs to pump her stomach, but she didn't throw up. They are treating her with fluids and have to test her for kidney failure over the next few days. She will be there at least 48 hours. The thing is, I don't know if she ate any of the plant or just played with it, and if she just played with it, how much got into her system. It's pretty scary though. We were lucky we were home and caught her in the act, because they say the first 5 or 6 hours hours after injestion are the most important. It seems so ridiculous...it's just a stupid flower.

On other fronts, Jim lost his job a few weeks ago. He was expecting it, so he wasn't surprised. His company was purchased by another one back in August that had a department that did what his did, so he knew it was just a matter of time. He got ten weeks severance, and hopefully he'll find a job within that time. If not, we'll be ok for a while, but it's still pretty stressful.

I think that's it for now...hopefully I'll have some good news on Mandi in a few days...
