Second Monday in a row that new woman is scheduled to be here at 7am and an hour later is still not here. I'm manager on duty for 1.5 hours a week, how is it that I get the no show twice in a row? In fairness, last week she was at the doctor having tests done after having a mild heart attack on Sunday. We heard from her later in the day, and that's fine. Medical stuff, okay. But today? Our paint manager made a joke that her second cousin had a heart attack. (Her boyfriend and son have both had medical emergencies recently as well and they excuses are starting to fall a little flat.)
In far more horrific work news, one of our cashiers used the N word last week. My neighbor T (another manager here) told me that P (a crotchety 60-something woman, who is apparently a racist) came to her with the following story: P was cashiering. A white woman came to the register with a black baby doll (we have white, black, and Latino dolls). And according to P, she said to the customer, "You know you're buying a n----- baby?" P didn't share the customer's reaction. I wish I'd been there, because that would have been her last day. Instead her last day is this Friday because she's moving to Arizona. Good riddance. T said she just stared at her, speechless. She couldn't even put together anything to say. We both could only hope that P used the N-word in the retelling and actually said "black baby" to the customer. What is wrong with people. Even Chris -- who is used to hearing friends back in Maryland throw the word around -- was shocked when I told him.
Fall is here! The news out of Denver this morning said it was 11 degrees in my town. But when I drove by the clock/thermometer in town 30 minutes later is said 23. I think that's more likely because when I went out in my PJs to start the truck (my jeans were in the dryer desperately trying to get a little dryer), it didn't feel like teen temps. I need to pull Buddy's heated water bowl out though because his water dish has been starting to freeze overnight.
We had snow Saturday night. Buddy was very excited to go out and lay in it yesterday. Of course, it was all melted by mid-day because the daytime temps were warm this weekend.
Had my Flight For Life training on Saturday. Got my Lift Ticket for avi rescues. It was cool. The flight nurse was smoking hot. OMG. I would like you to a picture of him, but he and the flight paramedic both don't have their pictures up on the site yet. WTF? 75% of the nurses and paramedics have their images up on the site, but not Russ or Tag. *is sad* I may have looked at the website to see what I'd need to become a flight paramedic. It'll be at least 5 years before I'd be qualified -- because first you have to be a paramedic (which means getting through EMT-B and EMT-I first) and then have minimum 3 years paramedic status with on ambulance crew. And then you can apply for a job (assuming there is one) and go through their training if they want you. So ... probably not a realistic career for me, but I'm not crossing it off the list yet. We shall see. (Just 6 months until EMT-B training!)
Watched Street Kings and No Country for Old Men this weekend. The first was predictable, but not bad. The latter was ... slow, but not bad. I wasn't really wowed by either. But I guess I enjoyed them well enough.
My Patriots made me cry last night.
And now I shall work.
