So people came and are now gone and the kitchen is cleaned and I'm back to working on my index that's due tomorrow (it was originally due on 2/8, but they asked me on Wed. if I could do it by Friday. I said no, and stupidly agreed to tomorrow. What was I thinking? I don't know. And I don't know if I'll make it, but they aren't paying a rush rate so ( Read more... )

Not that you would ever want to do this but if you tune into c-span sometime - you can watch them NOT follow House procedures all the time. You will now be in the know on this topic and able to be a discerning observer of House Rules. You go girl.

Oh I know. And the book actually includes some great stories about this sort of thing. It's actually really well written and the author does his best to make it interesting, but there's only so much you can do with the subject matter.

I find it interesting that in both chambers (but esp. the Senate) they regularly skip a bunch of rules by unanimous consent. Basically, none of them want to go through all the rigamarole. :)

"Basically, none of them want to go through all the rigamarole."
And THAT my dear friend, is the problem with our form of democracy! Our elected officials don't like rigamarole.

It was an odd match up, the Superbowl. Before the Colts came to Indy (or were STOLEN in the middle of the night, OMG! I love living in Baltimore. :) ) most of the football fans I knew when I lived there were either Bengal or Bears fans. I daresay some people in Indy still consider themselves Bears fans.

I didn't watch and really don't care, but yay Indy. Nice to see the hometown get a win in there.

So sorry about the weeping Congressional procedure book. Ick. Good luck!

I probably wouldn't have minded Indy winning except I'm still so hurt about Vinatieri leaving the Pats for the Colts. I'm honest enough to admit that some of my anger over this is aimed directly at the Pats for letting him go, but still...

We mostly rooted for the Bears because Buddy's namesake (Chris's best friend) is from Chicago and is a huge Bears fan. We had a nice mix for both teams at the house though and everyone was civil to each other. I joked at the end to the Colts people to "get out of my house", but it was all teasing.

Oh how I wish that was how it goes. As I mentioned about to Ruth, the book is actually really well done considering the content and it's a big seller because it's really informative. It's just there's only so much you can do with procedural information. :)

Cloture, yeah. I remember thinking as a kid that they just couldn't spell closure :).

PS - Go PATS! Where's the parade? Wait, they didn't win? They weren't even IN the Super Bowl? Aren't they Always in the Super Bowl? *sends you Tom Brady and Adam Vinateri to cheerlead your indicing*

LOL. Thanks for the kind Pats cheer. I was watching Adam last night and man, he's good looking. Some players look better with their helmets on, but not Adam. *sigh* Damn traitor.

I went to bed at 11:30. It's now 7:52 and I'm back at it. I e-mailed the editor last night and told her she'd get it some time today but that it wouldn't be this morning as originally planned. She wrote back this morning saying that was fine, to do what I could.

I'm currently learning everything I ever needed to know about cloture. Oooh, exciting. *rolls eyes* It's actually getting better. I'm onto the Senate which means reading quotes from the estimable Senator Byrd of wild, wonderful West Virginia. *g*
