the knees

I need to do a general post on The Plan for January. Will try to do that today or tomorrow. For now, news of the knees. So I haven't been wearing my knee braces this season for skiing and I was doing really well. I also recently started running again -- not a lot, but easing back in.

Apparently I overdid it a bit on Sunday. We went skiing down at Winter Park and hit a bunch of great runs on the Mary Jane side of the mountain. They give out stickers over there that say "No Pain, No Jane" for a reason -- the runs are all blue or higher and even the blues are mostly ungroomed which means bumps or at least push piles of snow. I've been getting into skiing the bumps this year since a) I'm feeling better and b) I'm skiing better. But I really pushed it on Sunday and mid-afternoon I looked at Chris and said, "I'm done. I'm going to sit and you can do some more on your own if you want." He skied some more, I sat, then he came down and I decided to do another run with him so I could ski to the truck instead of walking or taking the bus. I should have taken the bus.

My left knee was aching Sunday night. But I felt better on Monday, so I wasn't worried. Yesterday Chris left work early and we went down to catch the last hour of slope time. It's been snowing here the last several days and there was about 6-8" of powder. We came down Sleeper (a favorite of ours -- blue-black run) and there was just so much push -- piles that were a good 12" deep and cutting turns in that killed me. I got to the bottom and was done. One run and my knee was screaming. So I sat in the truck while Chris got a few more runs in and then we went to the Pub (of course, *g*).

Today I'm wearing my brace and taking it easy. Buddy's doing really well with walking off the leash (as long as we're in the neighborhood), so I'll do that for his walk. That'll let him run ahead and then back to me as I take it slow. I hate this. We'll probably ski on Saturday and I'll definitely wear my brace, stick to groomers, and limit the number of runs I do. Grr.

Weather: 0.5 degrees, overcast with light flurries
