october's end

Oct 07, 2009 00:42

It's already October.
The smell in the wind is changing.
The sky is no longer as bright as it once was
and neither are we.
The rosiness of youth is fading from us.
The gleam of curiosity
that once drove us
to greater possibilities
to the unknown
is fixed as a caustic remark on our naivete.
It's already the end
of what seemed like the beginning
of an extraordinary time
of greater possiblities
of the unknown.
In the last handful of years
I have suffered a lifetime
though I have not lived.
I have enflamed in passion
though I have none.
I have doused myself in knowledge
though I understand nothing.
In the handful of years that remain;
the only expectation
we should have
is to revive what we were.
It's almost November;
and I wonder
if the skies will change.
