Aw, dammit.

I called the Loew's Portofino this AM and the guy on the phone was really nice and I scored one of the very last rooms at the convention rate.  BOOYAH.  Then I thought for a second and I remembered, "Oh, yeah.  Weren't the Loew's hotels in Orlando the ones who started treating the cats on the property badly like total assholes?"

Um, yes.  That would be just plain BOO. The story goes that they had lots of little feeders out and had a pretty good Trap Neuter Release program, and that then they got new management who hired a wildlife company to trap the cats and transfer them to a kill shelter.  I am not saying "boo, I am boycotting and you must all boycott too."  It's just that there's some controversy on this and it bothers me.

Right now I'm still planning to attend and I'm still submitting something to the programming committee.  I contacted Loew's in a really polite way and I asked them what was up with this, assuring them that I am not nuts and not a journalist, but a real customer with a real reservation who really enjoyed their hotel last time. I'd rather stay there, but I also might have to make some other arrangements.

If any of you guys know what's the deal with this, I'd honestly like to know.  I'm not irrational, and I'm not the "boycott everything in sight" type either.

EDIT: And I'm also still planning to tart up the Formal Werewolf outfit. Because while I'm all about the humane treatment of animals, including the tasty ones on my plate, I'm not stupid.
