I guess some of you know that I was planning to cosplay a character from Saint Seiya at this year's Anime Expo in Anaheim. Well, I DID IT! (I don't have any photos up yet, but I'll post a link as soon as I can. I think there might also be some photos of me on some websites that have AX06 photo galleries.) I still don't want to say who I cosplayed...I want it to be a surprise! (OK, I was a Gold Saint, so now you have 1 of 12 guesses which one!)
I initially began working on the costume after AX05 where I cosplayed for the first time as Maetel (Galaxy Express 999). I had such a blast walking around in costume that I decided to do something really special for AX06 since it's the 15th anniversary of the con. I'd never tried to make anything like fake armor before, so it was a real challenge to say the least. I had to create a pattern from various small images of the character that I found online, find the right materials, experiment with different sticky substances, and go through lots of trial and error. I ended up putting the whole thing aside for several months when "real life" just became too busy. As March rolled around and AX06 neared, I began working on the costume again. When I found that the pieces I had already made were unusable for various reasons, I had to start over from scratch! Every spare moment I had was devoted to finishing the costume. When the day of the convention finally arrived this past Saturday (07/01), I was STILL working on it! (Really just some finishing touches, but I was way behind schedule!) I never even had a chance to try on the entire costume for a "trial run," so I was unable to discover if there were any problem areas. I really had no idea how the costume would look as a whole or if it all even fit together properly!
(TO BE CONTINUED...We're going to see Hyde at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, so I have to log off now!)
