i've got no suggestions; they're all morons. this year i just decided to use my cell phone rather than getting a home phone, and i have telus. while i've never had any huge problems with telus, it's the same kind of BS that you get with rogers or bell (i.e. i went into the store to change my number to a toronto number when i got here, they charged me $25 or something like that, and then i found out that if i went online to do it, it was free! of course they wouldn't tell you this).
and the problem is that any home phone service that's not bell is probably crappy. in kingston i had cogeco home phone one summer and it was absolutely terrible, there was a lot of weird interference, people speaking in foreign languages when i dialed a friend's phone number, etc etc etc.
basically the only solution is to not have a phone and to have everyone contact you using smoke signals.
i get my internet and home phone through cia.com which is a discount wing of 3web. the phone service is voip and the quality is shit, especially if you do anything at all on the internet at the same time. but for 47 bucks a month you can get high speed internet, local phone with all free features, and 5 cents a minute long distance anywhere. but, absolutely no customer service.
i only use the phone for long distance since it's so cheap. cell phone is much better quality for local stuff.
it's an option anyways. (ps they use rogers' cable for their infrastructure)
One good thing about rogers... whenever they've overcharged/charged me for something I thought was unfair, I just raised a stink and said I was taking all our services back over to bell... then they usually just creditted my next bill for the difference... you have to get through to the people who can do that and make a big fuss and spend a lot of time on the phone.. but sometimes when I'm a bad mood I enjoy it :)
Yes! Rogers will still do that, at least. When I left for another cell phone carrier they gave us a 30% reduction on our internet for a year because I complained how much they sucked.
