Titiyo: BEST OF Album Cover (2004)

Teh-tee-yo. That's how you pronounce Titiyo, a Swedish soul-queen whose name is her pride and joy that she would not consider dropping even if it meant her contract being dropped by the reputable recording company, Arista Records because they claimed her name sounded too much like tits. Her persistence and maturity in developing her music career has finally paid off when she won four Swedish Grammys for her first 3 albums.

Born Titiyo Jah in Stockholm, Sweden in 1967, Titiyo is; surprise, surprise, Neneh Cherry's half-sister, and who can forget, Eagle-Eye Cherry, her half-brother. I would not have discovered her if I haven't recently listened to Swedish radio stations, which I used to do quite a lot. My infatuation with foreign radio stations. Heh.

Her latest single, Lovin´Out Of Nothing is fast gaining airplay in radio stations all across this Land of the Midnight Sun. Just out in the Swedish market yesterday, and still unreleased outside of Sweden, •shrugs• Lovin´Out Of Nothing, I believe, is one song that has the right recipe for success for a number one spot on the Swedish charts and probably beyond if released worldwide. I remember the first time I heard Lisa Miskovsky, another Swedish singer, I was thrilled to hear her rather pleasant pop song, Lady Stardust. This Titiyo song, is a notch better, a pop song with a rather soulful, chill-out vibe that I know I wouldn't help repeating to.

Now before you start accusing me of being pro-Sweden and swalking swoo much about all things Swedish, I swhould warn you about my swendencies swo over-rate anything that came from Sweden, and consider casting Titiyo aside for thinking she's an unknown singer, let me give a low-down on her previous success story in the US where she did fairly well for her song, Come Along. One might have heard of that song on MTV and on the radio sometime back. Well, that song was written by Peter Svensson of The Cardigans' fame and Joakim Berg, the lead singer of Kent, a very famous Swedish alternative band which I also adore. Enough of my recommendation, and listen to a 50-second clip of Lovin´Out Of Nothing HERE ( You need to have the REAL PLAYER plugin for this ).

P.S: Couldn't go online the last few days ago because my network card got damaged by power tripping. Had it replaced and now I'm up and running!
