The bloody massacre

The top floor of Mizuno Corporation was in an uproar. The grand lobby to the CEO's office is plattered with blood and guts. On the floor, seven men are on the floor, covered in the same. Six are dead, all of them the heads of oil and coal companies who had tried to badger the superhero-turned-doctor into stopping her energy project, especially with Tokyo Rose gone. Ami, on her part, was kindly showing them the door when, all of a sudden, a deliveryman came...

The seventh man, still alive, is being hovered over by Ami Mizuno, her eyes betraying the worry she feels even as her face remains coldly passive. Shin was shot; he was shot and bleeding badly, his leg and hand shattered by a bullet. Still, he looks up at her, smiling. Or...perhaps, if one looks closer and recalls Kunzite...

"Everything will be all right, Mizuno-san," he manages to croak out as he is hurriedly taken out by EMTs. "This isn't...the end..."

Ami can only manage the saddest of smiles as the EMTs disappear. The police tape is being looped around the lobby, but especially around the lobby fountain, where an eighth man, the one responsible for the carnage, lays lifeless in the water, next to a bent floor lamp. Ami hitting him with it didn't kill him; no, the man had bitten down on a cyanide capsule when he saw the game was up.

The woman quietly walks into her office, clearly numb from what happened. Yes, it's true that Shin would walk again - the hospital and, more importantly, her robotics department would take care of that. And it's true that the man was, she was assured, an insane ex-con who was no doubt motivated by the prospect of killing her, a famous woman, for kicks. And it's true that maybe - just maybe - Kino Makoto's suspicions of the attack on Chiba Mamoru (and now her) are justified in her mind, how that she has seen for herself how willing this person - or was it these people? - were to destroy them. But to what end? Even no, no one could possibly know.

And for that, three words come to mind as Ami sits in her chair and looks at her clenched, bloodied fist. Yet, in that moment, thinking of Shin, those three words seem so hollow, so terrible, as if this was only the beginning of the horror that no one could imagine.

Just as planned.
