Hiding in the tree house was the most terrifying thing ever for her- but she had been there a long time. She hadn't counted, but she knew that she had to hide here because it was safer.
Her mom and dad would be so happy to know that she was hiding in here because she knew that once they were back, they would be happy. But it still didn't help the fact that it was scary out there- like, real scary. She only had to peek outside of her tree house to know how scary it was, but even then, the noises they made gave it away.
Clementine's attention was immediately snapped away when she heard a yell and she hid behind the boards of her tree house, glancing out only to see that it was a man- same skin colour as her and obviously scared; just like her. He was scared too. She wanted to help, but she wasn't sure how- she was too scared to scream... and she didn't want to either because she saw how those... things scrambled at the fence when he yelled.
She wanted them both to be safe, even though she wouldn't be able to talk to him. Unless he got her walkie talkie- but she didn't know if that was going to be happen, so she decided to wait. She was used to it by now; it was okay for her to wait a little longer because she knew that soon enough, she would have another friend to talk to-
Maybe he could even help her find her parents? Her previously discordant thoughts seemed to suddenly bright up- Yeah! He looked nice enough and he was scared too, so maybe she could go to him and comfort him? It would be nice to know that someone was by your side.
Clementine scrambled to grab at her walkie talkie that was lying on the floor, grasping onto it tightly and pressing it against her tummy as she waited and waited, hope and newly gained patience keeping her from being restless and she nearly jumped with joy when she heard his voice.
Their conversation was short, but she didn't blame him- it was terrifying out there! She wouldn't want to spend too long somewhere down there for long and when he came out, she waved at him eagerly- a big smile on her face and she tilted her head as she nodded and spoke to him and listened to his promise.
It made her... happy. She wasn't going to be alone. Surprise overcame her when she saw that he had suddenly fell down and without even thinking, she immediately her way down the tree and searched quickly before grabbing at something and practically rushing to where he was to see that he was being grabbed by one of them.
It was her babysitter... She forced herself not to look and handed him the hammer that she had inadvertently picked up and she looked away again when he began to fight the babysitter off-
It wasn't fair... She liked her a lot, she was really nice even though sometimes she would begin daydreaming. But she liked her a lot still, she was a really nice person. It wasn't fair that this had to happen to her.
When they were talking, it was short again, but he seemed really worried for her so Clementine felt happier- this man was just as nice as her babysitter and he also promised to help her find her parents in Savannah- she was going to see mom and dad again!
"Hey, Lee, will you... really promise to help me?"
"Yeah, I'll protect you too Clementine, you can count on it."
