Tidbits of the Joshua Tree trip

1. We were trying to decide how to put out the campfire. Water would be the quickest, but would make the wood unusable if we wanted to re-light it later. I thought sand was best, bc there was lots of it and it wouldn't ruin the wood. TC had an interesting suggestion: "We could just leave it and let it burn itself out." Apparently all that time in boy scouts didn't teach him about fire prevention.

2. The power had gone out in 29 Palms...which meant that none of the gas pumps were working. Nothing says fun like hoping you'll make it to the next desert town before your gas runs out. Luckily we made it to the next town, which had power.

3. Out of all the dangerous animals in the desert, the one that decided to attack me was a red ant. Let me tell you, red ant bites pack a punch.
The convo:
Me: "oooooooooowwwwww. Something bit me!!!!!! Ow owowowowo!!! Get it off!!!
TC: Let me see. Uh, Stef... it's just a white head.
Me: Really? Owowowooww. Ok well it feels like something bit me.
TC: Nope, it's a whitehead. You want me to pick it?
Me: I guess. It hurts really bad.
TC: Hold on. Um...
Me; Did you get it?
TC: You were right. I thought it was a white head, but once I touched it, I realized it was a chunk of skin hanging off.

Interesting fact of the day: "Research has shown that many tumors are essentially harmless and will stagnate or regress on their own."

Words of inspiration: There is no discovery without risk-- and what you risk reveals what you value."

An interesting Oprah quote: "I approach every interview by asking 'What is my intention? What do I really want to accomplish?' You can't accomplish anything if you are judging. I believe that all pain is the same, that all of us have difficulties and challenges."
