Dollhouse 2x11

I know, I know, I know, I haven't posted in *ages*--over two months, and I'm very embarrassed that this isn't even a real post (which is coming, because I have a whole weekend ahead of me with nothing else to do, more on that later), but I just finished watching Dollhouse, and my sister is being callously unsympathetic.

SPOILERS for Dollhouse 2x11. )

As soon as Claire came in the room and started talking all crazy, I knew some MAJOR BADNESS was going to go down. And when she shot Bennett, I did exactly what I did in Dr. Horrible when Penny died, and I shouted, "I KNEW IT!"

I was really getting to love Bennett: I love the way she bounced back and forth on the moral scale and the craziness scale and she and Topher were OMG SO CUTE. I've become a major Topher fangirl, and his crush on her was ridiculously adorable. But, as we all know, be happy for even just a moment, and the person you love will die. Oh, Joss. *sigh*

Is it just me, or is this show throwing around the word "love" an awful lot? Like we're supposed to buy that Echo and Ballard genuinely love(d) each other? And now Topher is in "love" with Bennett who he's only known for a short while? Is this unreliable narration, or does this show have any idea of what love is? Victor and Sierra I can buy because they've known each other a long time, and we've seen hints of it throughout the show, but the other couples? Yeah, right.

And I feel like the Boyd thing was Joss sacrificing actual sense-making for the sake of the BIG REVEAL. There better be some good explanation for this, because I'm pretty angry at the moment.

Adelle as general = awesome. I also love that she was so concerned with taking care of her dolls. She's morally pretty screwed up in a lot of ways, but I've always loved the way she takes her duty towards the actives very seriously. And even though I don't really like Echo (though I do like her more than Caroline, who I think is just awful), I like that Tony and Priya are so BFF with her. It's a little bit of Scoobiness that makes me happy.

And yes. This show is to femmeslash what Merlin is to slash. Well, maybe not quite that extreme, but still.

Around the time Claire talked about being "the best," my face went O_o. But. Claire. And Bennett :( It felt like we still had so much to learn about her -- ie, was she really going to torture/kill Caroline? The flashbacks suggested otherwise, but now we might never know. Which, cancellation/series finale, but *still*. And did Bennett really become just another Rossum employee, or was she playing her own game (the way everyone else is)?

Mm...a bit. With Echo/Ballard, definitely; I did a severe double-take when I realized that we were supposed to buy them as a romantic couple. Sure, Ballard fixated on her, but *love*? And a fully-formed "partnership" at that? Ick, no. Boyd/Saunders and Victor/Sierra were both fine to me.

Bennett/Topher...yes, I think it was rather fast, but maybe it's just because it's Topher that it was considered love--ie, definitely not how he treats/considers anyone else, actively liking someone/respecting them. You could probably also factor in the part where he had a crush on Bennett "even when [he] thought she was a guy." Given Bennett's behaviour before/during their first meeting, the feeling was somewhat mutual. Also, Claire told Bennett that Topher loved her just before shooting her, so she isn't exactly the most reliable critic available.

And I feel like the Boyd thing was Joss sacrificing actual sense-making for the sake of the BIG REVEAL.

I'm willing to wait until next episode to bring down my final judgement--either because it turns out to be slightly more complicated (this show loves its villains as heroes - ie: Topher, Adelle, Bennett - and twisting the good guys - ie: Ballard), or because we'll just have more info after the finale. At the moment, it definitely comes off as !omg big reveal!, but I'm hoping that there's something else to this.

And yes. This show is to femmeslash what Merlin is to slash. Well, maybe not quite that extreme, but still.

True, it has its moments of fem!Merliness, but I don't think any show can quite touch Merlin/Arthur (well - except Smallville's Lex/Clark, but I'm convinced that was actually canon, not slash :P). Not that Dollhouse!femslash doesn't give it a very valiant go, and all.
