Some Thougths On NuWho

Jan 10, 2009 07:06

With the 11th Doctor officially announced I figured it was about time to give my piece on NuWho. No specific thoughts on who they've cast as 11. No need to start any fights.

I was late on joining the Doctor Who bandwagon, only because I live in America. I actually saw Torchwood first, and I started watching because of my James Marsters love. So, I started watching during the break between seasons 3 and 4. It was actually right around the time it was announced Billie Piper would be reprising her role as "Rose Tyler". So I already knew who Rose was and that she would be leaving.

I started watching and was hooked right away. I raced through series 1. Then I met with a problem. I always find it really hard to adjust when a main character leaves a T.V. show. Even though I knew David Tennant would be The Doctor after season 1 I was really upset. I missed Christopher Eccleston dearly, and wasn't ready to move on.

What this all comes down to is one of my two major problems with New Who. I can't stand how quickly everything changes. Once you're attached to Rose she leaves, and by the time you've gotten over Doomsday and accepted Martha, she's replaced too. It doesn't really matter which companion you like the best, because by the time you like them they've moved on. Now with Tennant leaving as well, and without a companion we recognize the change is going to be immense. I even hear rumors about a new Desktop Theme for the TARDIS.

In the end, it is what it is. I would like to see a companion stay for more than two series, but who knows? I just wished it was a show where you could really invest in a character. I love the show the bits, and I'd willingly squee at any of the people who make the show what it is. Though, admittedly I'd probably give RTD a good smack for a few things too.

Feel free to say so if you disagree. What are your thoughts on all the changes the show goes through?
