Some Thougths On NuWho

Jan 10, 2009 07:06

With the 11th Doctor officially announced I figured it was about time to give my piece on NuWho. No specific thoughts on who they've cast as 11. No need to start any fights.

I don't know how I feel about a TARDIS change. I haven't really decided yet. It would be so exciting if a companion left part-way through a series.

Thanks for responding =-)

I agree about companions. I would like to see them change things up- two or more companions at once, so if one leaves during the season finale as expected, another stays on, and leaves midway through the next season or something. It's irritating when, during every season finale, something happens to either the Doctor or the companion.

I would like to see another companion stay for more than one series. In New Who, only Rose has stayed for two. Ideally, I would have liked to see Donna stay through Ten's regeneration, and at least half a season with Eleven. I also became a fan through NewWho, so it's easier for me to accept drastic changes if there's some familiarity.

i'm very much an old school fan who's luke warm at most about the new series, but i think in both cases the show's inherent strengths (and why i've always liked it in the first place) have been a very healthy attitude to change and the fact it never really takes things like it's own internal continuity very seriously. certainly the producer and actor who stayed on the longest in the series - JNT and tom baker - both became very stale towards the end and to the detriment of the series as a whole. new cast, new production teams, new rejigs of the series have always happened and are probably the reason the series has lasted so long. certainly it's one of the reasons i feel i've endured the RTD years, to see what comes next... thankfully it's moffat

i don't mind the change, but i do mind when it's formulaic - as the other commenters above me have said.

i think a large part of what makes doctor who what it is is the fact it changes so much. :)
