I'm just sitting here, being lazy, and remembering why I loved my african millipedes so much in the first place. Edna decided to wake up again today. This is a rare event since she only comes out of the dirt for food and water every couple of months. My other pedes were not burrowers like her and they moved about daily. I always figured that Edna was unhealthy and would die sooner or later from refusing to eat. She was also very shy about my touching her and never seemed to get over it. Until tonight. She was up and about when I got home and she let me scoop her right up without coiling. I gave her some applesauce, which she took to while still on my hand, and then I put her down and gave her some water. She then caroused the kitchen counter while I had supper. and when I say caroused, I mean, she checked out EVERYTHING. No fear at all, which was how Milton was with me. when I was done, I picked her back up, let her check out my hand for a bit (they never get bored with checking things out. I got a thorough inspection with antennae twice now) and now I'm letting her snoop through the junk on my compy desk. And through all of this, she didn't get spooked once and excrete the nasty yellow liquid that Mildred let loose all the time. Edna has been quite social for an hour now and I'll put her away when I go to bed. I know that its likely just a familiarity of my scent and the association of food, but I enjoy the unquestioning trust they express, where for everyone else they instantly coil upon touch.
Totally different topic. I got off track on typing this and watched Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I love that movie. :) Its kinda corny, but I like it anyhow. I can't help but get a tiny bit sympathetic feeling and few things elicit that from me. Time to put the pede and me to bed. ni!
