I know it got really slammed by the critics, but I must say that I really enjoyed Elektra. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, but it was a pleasant surprise. Sure there were some cheesy special effects thrown in and quite honestly I thought the red fighting outfit was a bit much, but it was SUPPOSED to be comic book representation and is SUPPOSED to be over the top. I think one of the most universal criticisms I heard was that the character Elektra was "stiff and one dimentional" but I didn't see her that way at all. This was a very moody movie and the whole thing was filled with such intense sadness for me. Even when she faught she looked hurt, always searching for something. I appreciated all the scenes of her solitude and her quietness. There were all these beautiful scenes of her alone in different nature settings, staring wistfully out into the horizon. That's not "stiff and one-dimentional", that's totally ME.
Definitely a huge change from the endless chatter and sarcastic banter that Xena and buffy have with their foes.
I liked her.
She's a quiet person like me.
And that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Throw in some good workout scenes with one handed pull ups as well as some old gothic mansion scenes and I was good to go. All it missed was some good horseback riding action.
My review: 4 stars out of 5. I'd buy it, but when it gets to the $9.99 price.
