Glee | Peace Maker | Burt/Carole (One Shot)
Started my daily ficlets to make the hiatus pass, then decided to keep going with a 2nd cycle, and then a 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th , 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th cycle. Now cycle 16!

"PEACE MAKER"
Burt/Carole
Carole made him feel so much more at ease, always. That was one of the things he had fallen for, when he’d met her. It was something he’d lost, years before, when he’d lost his wife. He couldn’t see anyone ever achieving that again, but then he’d gone and met Carole Hudson. He’d been handed this great new relationship, and he really wanted to hang on to it.
He hadn’t seen this coming, this… problem, with Finn… He loved Carole, wanted to make a life with her, but Kurt… If such a situation came where Kurt’s well-being, in any capacity, was threatened, he would choose Kurt, always Kurt. But now Carole… the idea of losing her… They had gone through the melding of their families and their lives, and just as much as Burt was determined to look out for Kurt, he knew Carole would stand by her son, as well she should. Only with this, the lines would be drawn, and they’d have to follow what they knew had to be done… even if they lost one another because of it.
Coming back up the stairs, from the basement, to the main floor, then the second floor up to the bedroom door, in the time it had taken for him to make it there he’d had to get himself from that place of outrage to something more at ease; he didn’t want to go in and end up lashing out at her… She didn’t deserve that. He stood there, staring at the door for so long, partly to assure himself he wouldn’t still be showing signs of his mood and partly to put off what he knew was about to come. He had this image in mind like, if he waited too long, she might come out of the room and bump into him.
When he finally opened the door, he found her sitting up in bed, reading her book. She didn’t look up, but she shuffled, which he knew was signal for ‘I know you’re here, just let me finish this bit.’
He sat at the edge, looking at her… He didn’t want to lose her, she was too precious in his life, it wasn’t right… She made him happy, and that was so important to him… But it was more: he made her happy, too. She’d finally gone and opened herself up again, and now he was going to take that away from her, calling on her son as the cause.
“So patient,” she finally looked up, smiling. He smiled obligingly; she noticed. “Something wrong?” she sat forward, taking his hand. He squeezed hers, rubbing his thumb against the back of her hand. He’d count to three in his head, something, just go at it. The whole thing was like ripping off the band aid… The pain was quick, but it made your eyes water.
