Today, my baby (my kitten, Chortles) fell out a second story window. My bedroom window. At some point between 1:30 and 8:00 am he fell out when he tried to climb in the window to look out and popped out a corner of the screen.
After not seeing him in the morning, and then two hours after I got home from work, I began to search the house. I knew something was wrong when he didn't come for fancy feast. I called my dad in and he helped me look. He was the one who made the screen discovery.
I was horrified when he yelled this down to me. I ran outside (in socks and penguin pajamas) screaming. Fortunately, I did not see a limp body beneath the window. However, this brought a whole new set of worries. If he wandered away, he could have fallen in a pond or been run over by a car or attacked by an animal. My dad and I came back inside so we could call my mom and Dave, so Dave could come help us search even though he was feeling sick.
I got dressed and my dad and I went to check all the bushes again. We didn't find a body, but we were calling for him, and all of a sudden a little head popped out from under a fern bush. I scooped him up and took him inside.
Aside from being wet and having prickers in his fur, he's ok. He's just really skiddish. He was really hungry when we brought him in. He was out there for at least 12 hours, maybe 16. He stayed under the bush the whole time.
It was a very emotional experience. My parents, Dave, and I were all very happy. However, Spindles, our older cat, seemed to be slightly disappointed that Chortles came back, lol.
