I have made a hilarious discovery. The Eleventh's Doctor's screwdriver is activated by a flat push-button switch:

If any of you have ever had to wire up random projects, you probably know that these buttons cost like ten cents and are more-or-less ubiquitous. They're small and lovely and work well, but... I guess I would expect such a heavily-used prop to have a more full designed button! The props folks from Doctor Who are my heroes.


In other complete unimportant observation news, today my hair looks oddly similar to Bon Jovi's.
