I’ve been thinking a lot about eating better, trouble is my mother was a single mom so most of our meal growing up came from a box, and my grandmother who cooked from scratch was not a patience teacher. I'd recommend Alton Brown for good basic food prep instructions.

The best how-to I've seen for brown rice was from Qi magazine. Wash the rice first, skim off hulls or anything else that floats to the top, bring it to a boil, stir it up, and after about 10 minutes of brisk boiling, put a tight lid on and .. turn it off. This way, the rice never burns, and you can leave it in the morning and go to work. I make a big pot and use it for several meals, or pack it into lunches for my partner. Brown rice has a lot more flavor and texture (and try the other colors -- red rice is fantastic with sauteed onion, mushrooms and red pepper slices ( ... )

I goggled hom now and he looks pretty interesting. I think I need to write a story some day about a butch with her own cable cooking show. Now that's a show I'd watch. Something set for gal on budjets.

I keep telling my partner she should do a research-cook show. She worked out a way to make whole-grain pancakes that don't have the texture and consistency of doorstops... but for some reason she prefers to keep teaching math.

Being a teacher keeps a gal buzy. Tell her she could do a webcast, even make cash on the side doing it, sell the vid, takes less time. :)
