The best how-to I've seen for brown rice was from Qi magazine. Wash the rice first, skim off hulls or anything else that floats to the top, bring it to a boil, stir it up, and after about 10 minutes of brisk boiling, put a tight lid on and .. turn it off. This way, the rice never burns, and you can leave it in the morning and go to work. I make a big pot and use it for several meals, or pack it into lunches for my partner. Brown rice has a lot more flavor and texture (and try the other colors -- red rice is fantastic with sauteed onion, mushrooms and red pepper slices).
I used to hate to cook, but now I'm at the point where I'm reluctant to eat out because I can do better at home. And it isn't fancy food, just fresh food with a few spices.
Apparently sprouting rice before cooking it helps keep blood sugar levels balanced. My family has some Cherokee genes, and my junk-fook-junkie brother developed diabetes, so I've been paying closer attention to snacks.
