I hadn't really posted anything, and then typsie  posted about Hodgman coming and I do want to see him, so I thought I would post a list here of the different wordstock events I am trying to get to (in case anyone else is interested):

THURSDAY

In their first partnership ever, Wordstock & Stumptown Comics Fest present a Graphic Novel First Thursday.  Featuring both original comic book art & the literary masterpieces of Portland graphic novelists, this event is certain to entertain both your eyes and ears.

If you're new to the genre or a fanboy, you'll meet the artists that are behind the explosion of Portland comics.  See and hear from the likes of Carolyn Main, Jamie Rich & Joelle Jones, Graham Annable, Eisner winner Shannon Wheeler, and debut novelist Jesse Reklaw.

Join us First Thursday, November 6 at Fuzzy Glamour Gallery, 625 NW Everett St. #111 in Portland. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., readings begin at 6:45 p.m., and admission is free!

All artists featured at this First Thursday event will also be on hand in the Stumptown Comics Garden at the Wordstock Book Fair.

SATURDAY

PANEL: Comics and Politics
1:00 p.m. Saturday, University of Oregon Nonfiction Stage (exhibit hall D)
Artists and historians discuss the relationship between comics and politics and the history of this underground art form. With Alison Bechdel, Spain Rodriguez, and Patrick Rosenkranz. Moderated by Douglas Wolk.

John Hodgman & Jonathan Coulton
4:00 p.m. Saturday, Powell's Books Stage (exhibit hall D)

The Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) is happy to present The Text Ball, Portland's unique celebration of all things text, where attendees are encouraged to come dressed with text as part of their evening attire. The Text Ball will come alive with music, dancing, temporary text tattoos and text-based foods. A jury of distinguished authors, booksellers, publishers, fashion designers and artists will award prizes for the most artistic and/or grammatically correct costumes. The theme for this year's ball is “Figures of Speech.”

As a preface to the Text Ball, the IPRC will host a casual post-Wordstock cocktail hour from 6-7 p.m., including live music, snacks and a silent auction/art show. The Text Ball proper will commence at 7 p.m. and last until 11 p.m. Both the cocktail hour and Text Ball take place at the Leftbank Building, 240 North Broadway.

Tickets are $10 for IPRC members, $15 for non-members. $5 for Wordstock attendees. Students are $5. They can be purchased at the IPRC offices, the IPRC’s Wordstock booth, Reading Frenzy bookstore or at the door. Tickets are also available online at brownpapertickets.com.

All proceeds from The Text Ball benefit the IPRC, a unique non-profit organization serving Portland's creative publishing community for more than a decade. For more information visit www.iprc.org or call 503.827.0249.
The Live Wire with John Hodgman is that night as well, unfortunately tickets are $25 each. : /
