Outside room 215, Early Monday morning

River had fallen asleep early and hence woke up quite early too. After tossing and turning and accidentally waking Berthold too, she slipped out of bed, got dressed and picked up a bowl of ice cream in the kitchen. She then made her way down to the second floor, hoping to find Jack. She stopped outside the door for a moment, her mind reaching out

The knock pulled him out of almost sleep and he groaned. He'd crept out of Isabel's room once he was sure she was sleeping, stripped off, and collapsed into bed, trying so hard not to think. That had been about an hour ago, and he was so tempted to ignore the knock.

But he couldn't. "It's unlocked," he called out, burrowing under the blankets, wondering, 'What now?'.

River quietly slipped into the room and closed the door behind her. "Jack?" She walked over to the bed and sat down next to him.

His head popped out from under the blankets and he stared, wondering if he was imagining her. "River?" he asked, then sat up straight and wrapped his arms around her, hanging on tight. "I'm so glad you're back."

River put the ice cream bowl next to her on the bed and returned the hug, resting her head on his shoulder. "Good to be back," she said, then added with a smile: "And you got back safely too." She looked up and ran her fingers through his hair. "Ok?"
