River had fallen asleep early and hence woke up quite early too. After tossing and turning and accidentally waking Berthold too, she slipped out of bed, got dressed and picked up a bowl of ice cream in the kitchen. She then made her way down to the second floor, hoping to find Jack. She stopped outside the door for a moment, her mind reaching out to sense of he was there, and alone, before knocking.
