entry born out of wanting to use an icon...

...before it's way out of season. i guess i should say a couple things to plump this entry up. i'm still sick, though it's down to just a cough by now. we're out of money until bryan's check gets in, but we still make room for boba (who needs food, right?). my cats are crazy and they seem to turn against one another more and more everyday. but life is good when i have my fiancé at home, and the recently aquired DVR is also nice. :]

oh yes, memoirs of a geisha was good. as always happens with book-to-movie transitions, things were changed (mostly tons of little things that don't matter, but a couple bigger ones too) and it's sad that some of my favorite scenes couldn't have fit into two hours without compromising story-advancing time. i still think mameha's actress was a bit too old for the part (i never learned her name, sorry!), but her acting certainly was spot on. i'm sad that pumkin's character didn't get all the charm she had in the book. i did forget zhang ziyi isn't japanese (because the movie is 98% english anyway), and a lot of things were very beautiful to look at, so it's definitely a movie i wouldn't mind watching again (i can't help that i love zhang ziyi)!

i really liked the book, though not enough to read it again. however, i think i would buy the dvd and watch it whenever i felt like re-experiencing the story from the books' perspective through the movie (which probably only makes sense to me, but i really do remember a lot of things from books when watching the movies based on them). i do like the story, though going through every page a second time seems like it would make me impatient (with it describing every little detail and then the repeated use of several phrases didn't annoy me the first time, but might if i read it again). so remembering my favorite parts while watching the movie is enough for me, as well as the satisfaction of knowing the differences and things that were left out or added in (i like knowing everything, which is also why i love behind-the-scenes and dvd extras and the like). speaking of which, i hope the dvd comes with good extras. then i'd definitely buy!

sick, review, dvr, update, memoirs of a geisha
