Excited!

Those of you who've known me for a while may recall that I've always wanted to do sex toy design, and that I used to play around with it a good deal. Um, I'm living with an artist with the skills and inclination to really see about making a go of it! The other night we got on the topic, and the pieces started to fall into place -- he has access to the resources, he has the training, we've both got ideas, and I've got years of notes and drawings, and sex-toy specific research, most of which I still haven't seen available on the market... I'm really ridiculously, insanely excited about this! Now I just need to figure out where my toy design box got to. Basement, maybe?

Also on the exciting list: we replaced the router, and I have internet back at home again, and we got the extra PC set up, too, so I can stop competing for time on grf's laptop. Yay! This also makes it easier for me to follow all the things I miss when I access from work.

I've also gotten more active on some of the dating sites recently (OKCupid, Alt.com, and AdultFriendFinder), and that's been adding a bit of interest to life. I've been being more social, getting to know new people (the two I've started hanging out with both rock). And it's looking tentative but possible that I may be finding some local S/M play that really interests me.

In more general social notes, I'm got a date tomorrow night, we're having another fire pit party on Friday, I'm escorting Saturday, and the CYPRUS meeting is Sunday evening. Lots going on!

I'm currently reading Hanne Blank's new book, Virgin: An Untouched History. I'd been looking forward to its release for quite a while, and I'm finding it fascinating.

My students tonight rocked just by being there. These are nurse prac students. They've already been through our program. They've fulfilled the requirement as of last year. They requested an additional session, in order to get some additional practice and fine-tune their exam skills. I can't tell you how much this thrills me -- I think what we do is immensely important and valuable; I believe passionately in the program. Sometimes the students grok what they can get from these sessions and really appreciate them, sometimes they're oblivious to it being anything more than another hurdle. It's always rewarding when we get rather surprised thanks at the end of the session for what they've learned. It's rewarding when we get students back through who've been through patient-instructing programs (ours or others) at another point in their training, and quite obviously concretely benefited from it in their exam skills. It's just plain flattering and hopeful, though, when they volunteer to come back for more training with us. It says good things about our program, but most importantly, it says to me they're invested in becoming good clinicians, and that they're concerned about having the best interactions with their patients that they can. People like that are a joy to work with.

Questions for the question meme should be coming tomorrow.

Work is hell right now, and finances suck, but life is general is pretty great.
