I've pretty much been doing work experience these past few weeks, which is probably why I haven't been around here much. This means a lot of time following vets around - including last week when I was doing a week at a horse hospital and had to be on call 24/7. Getting called out in the middle of a freezing night to attend to a 4 hour emergency surgery, then having to be up at 6:30am again the next day ready for a full days' work is MADNESS! I have since sworn off ever being a horse vet!
This week I'm working days at a local small animal vet clinic, which is full of the loveliest, most laid-back people I've ever encountered in a work environment. Even though it's fun and all of this veterinary stuff piques my academic interest, I have had NO life whatsoever and am neglecting my friends BIG TIME.
All I have done in the past few weeks is go out to dinner with one of my friends once. It's SO unfair. Basically our 21 weeks of uni 'holidays' are not holidays at all, but require 17 weeks of full-time, unpaid work. I know I've whinged about this before and I know how important it is to get practical experience. It's just really grating on me at the moment. It means I can hardly do any actual paid work and I'm almost completely broke. I feel like saying to the uni, C'MON!!! We're full-time students too! AND I'm really struggling to keep up with rent and bills!
Scheisser, I didn't mean to rant on that long. I guess I just needed to vent!
On a more positive note, things are progressing slowly but well (I think!) with that boy I mentioned in my last entry. Who knows, this could turn out good. Or not.
I guess we'll have to see.
