- The KDE pager plasmoid does not display window outlines or app icons (even when "Display icons" is checked in "Pager Settings") if the panel is too short. The required height may vary from theme to theme (not sure about this). If in doubt, drag the panel height a pixel or three taller. If you have few enough virtual desktops that you display them in one row rather than two, you probably won't ever run into this problem.
- I've been having problems for a while now with my quicklaunch icons and my taskbar* entries competing for space. Yeah, I could make my panel twice as tall so I can have two rows of things, but I don't like a fat panel.
I finally figured out that I can add a second panel and redistribute my widgets between them, and set one of them to auto-hide. I actually find this to be a more elegant solution, because while I prefer my taskbar to be visible always, I don't need to have my quicklaunch visible until I want to launch something.
I'm still chewing over which panel I want my System Tray in, though. Some of those widgets I want always visible; others I want visible only on demand. I'm also still chewing over whether this really is a longterm solution, since I'm now getting those damned huge libnotify monstrosities popping out of both panels, but I do still have a few ideas to try for getting rid of that problem. I really really wish libnotify pop-ups were easier for the average user to configure! - Also, sweet! When I check "Highlight windows" in "Task Manager Settings", when I hover over a taskbar item, I get a fullsize preview of that window superimposed over the current desktop for a couple-three seconds. :)
*Ok, I admit to having problems switching between Windows and linux terminology at times. ;> When I say "taskbar", what I really mean here is the Task Manager plasmoid/widget/thingy in my panel. And although there is a "Quicklaunch" thingy for the panel too, what I've actually been doing is adding selected icons directly from the Application Launcher Menu to the panel. I should probably try playing around with that Quicklaunch thing now that I've found it, and see if it conserves either space or sanity any better.
