McAfee Partners with Facebook to Protect Millions of Internet Users McAfee Inc. has joined forces with Facebook to help make the Internet more secure, in an unprecedented partnership that will provide millions of Internet users with security tools and resources.
As part of the partnership McAfee will be the exclusive security provider for Facebook and provide its over 350 million members expert information on how to stay safe online. This partnership will complement Facebook’s already extensive security systems to detect and prevent the spread of Internet threats.
The companies have also jointly created a custom scanning and repair tool that will clean Facebook members’ accounts and computers at no charge. In the rare case when a user’s account has been compromised, the McAfee Scan and Repair tool will quarantine and delete infected files, allowing the user to continue to enjoy Facebook without the worry of infecting other users.
Greater Internet Security Overall
This collaboration between the world’s leading dedicated security company and the largest social networking site will not only help reduce the amount of malware that’s brought into the Facebook environment, but it will also provide a safer Internet environment overall during a time when increased security is critical.
Recent research* shows that 78% of consumers do not have updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software even though the amount of malware has increased substantially over the last 12 months, including malware targeting social networking sites.
Expert Advice and Information
The partnership is also designed to help educate Internet users on security threats with expert tips, videos, and information offered through Facebook’s security page at
http://www.facebook.com/security. In addition, McAfee will continue to update the security resources on its own Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcafee.
