By the way, let's not forget that C-484 isn't the Tories' only attempt to recriminalize abortion. There's also
Maurice Vellacott (CPC Saskatoon--Wanuskewin)'s C-537:
“human life” means the human organism at any stage of development, beginning at fertilization or creation. ...
(2) Every one is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction who, being an employer or the agent of an employer,
(a) refuses to employ a health care practitioner,
(b) refuses to advance or promote a qualified health care practitioner, or
(c) dismisses, or threatens to dismiss, a health care practitioner from employment,
because the health care practitioner is, or is believed to be, unwilling to take part, directly or in an advisory capacity, in any medical procedure that offends a tenet of the practitioner’s religion, or the belief of the practitioner that human life is inviolable.
Oh, those warm, cuddly Tories.
EDIT: There's also
C-338, from Paul Steckle (Huron--Bruce):
287.1 (1) Despite section 287, every one who, with intent to procure the miscarriage of a female person who he or she knows or ought to know is past her twentieth week of gestation, uses any means or permits any means to be used for the purpose of carrying out his or her intention
(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or
(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to a fine not exceeding $100,000, or to both.
EDIT AGAIN: I was wrong -- Paul Steckle is a Liberal, not a Conservative. Just goes to show.
