Somebody told me last year that the best, most basic way to do back yard composting is in a half barrel which you can buy from a Home Depot gardening department or something like that - they sell them to use as planters - and you put a piece of burlap on top. Anyone know of a good place to get free/cheap compost and seedlings (veggies, flowers, anything really!) I'm trying to start a garden from scratch and don't have a lot of funds.

I live near Papineau and Frontenac metros, so close by would be ideal, but please don't hesitate to mention other areas.

I am looking for a reasonably attractive outdoor composter, preferably not a plastic one. I know the easiest way is to build one, but I am horrible with doing things with my hand. I don't want any high end auto rotating stuff, and anyway am incredibly cheap. What are my options in MTL? Thanks!

Are there such things as community compost heaps? If so, do you know where I might find one? I've got a couple buckets of compostibles, but no heap on which to heap it all (indeed, no yard!). And since I'm moving this weekend, it'd be nice to find somewhere useful to put it, instead of tossing the lot.
