Also... I've realized that the reason that perhaps Europeans are more passionate about politics or knowing about other counties (so the stereotype goes) is that our MEDIAS are different. Yesterday I saw images (of New Orleans, of the police brutality case, of the landslide in Kashmir, of the earthquake in Pakistan) that would never have been shown on American television. Perhaps that's why people here can be more passionate - they see more reality than we do.
Yesterday I was done with volunteering, so I hopped over to the Bibliotheque Emile Zola to hear Jane Fonda give a speech. That's random, Jane Fonda in Montpellier?
Jenny and I have discovered that we like the same books and movies. She has Watership Down with her! I'm going to read it when I'm done working my way through the novels left in my room. She quoted entire segments of "Love Actually" and we both cracked up - we both love that movie.
Still coughing badly, which isn't helping with improving my French accent.
Today we had language lab., which was quite fun, to hear what I sound like. I think it will help a lot too. We sat with headphones and mikes on (like an airplane pilot!) and followed the instructions on the cassette tape. Well, I had fun, because one of my goals is to work on the phonetic aspects of the language. Lots of homework for tonight though, and a test next week already!
I'm done with class and typing this at the university's foreign student library. After lunch I'll go to Pharmacists Without Borders. Then I'll mosey on home, and do homework and study, and probably curl up and keep reading a very interesting novel I found last night. On page 200 already.
Saturday is our excursion to the Pont du Gard (and somewhere else that I forget - the Sommieres? Something like that. Should be fun, although that means we can't go out Friday night, really, and I was looking forward to it, now that I'm starting to be better. Oh well, maybe Saturday night. Except that means no market the next morning. :-)
