Have been watching old clips - and I mean really old clips - of amazing early rock and roll like The Who and Beatles. They were all so cute when they were young. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to be there.
That said, I wouldn't have been one of those screaming, crying girls, because that's not my M.O., but I could easily crush on John Entwistle (see pic below). Who by the way was a groundbreaking bass player. Ground-fucking-breaking.
I'm the kind of girl who falls for the guitarists. Of course I love the singers, too, but I play instruments. Sadly I'm a dilettante so I never get especially good at any instrument with the exception of piano. (I do sing also and am quite decent at it; it's all good.)
So... a man who's good with his hands - get your mind out of the gutter! :) - and playing a guitar is sexy.
Me, I grew up with punk and New Wave and of course classical music. Later learned to love big band, cool jazz, the Bakersfield sound, and a whole lot of diverse stuff. Adam's kind of a one-off because current pop isn't of much interest to me (although I do like Lady Gaga). So I'm a rocker, so there. :)
That brings us to Tommy Joe. There are people, supposed fans of Adam, who say ~mean shit about Tommy's skilz. They call him mediocre. They can have their opinions but I'm thinking they must be high-schoolers or maybe grandmas, or anything in between, but mostly dorks who are incapable of judging musical talent and have none of their own.
Guess what? Tommy is a very good guitarist. Monte is exceptional; Tommy is very good. Tommy's better at six-string than bass, not surprisingly since he only recently took on the bass. Monte is great at shredding (well, he's great all around; nothing makes me sadder than to see a possible rift between him and Adam). Tommy's made for punk and blues.
After watching a lot of old Who and Beatles and Cream videos, I checked out Tommy playing lead. He's said he loves blues which seems odd - he looks more like glam and punk and grunge - but he actually has a great bluesy sound. I was surprised. Check this out.

Great musicianship isn't all about whether your fingers move in perfect time, it's about the musicality of what you do, how expressive you are. One great example is soprano Maria Callas; her tone is kind of rough but she became a star because her expressiveness is something special. I don't stan Adam because he can wail away like a rawk star; I stan him because his tone is gorgeous and he has an amazingly expressive way of singing. Adele is also beautifully expressive but her tone is sometimes quite sharp-edged where Adam's is always creamy.
Back to guitar: here is Tommy taking over lead for Sleepwalker when Monte wasn't available. He does a great job although without doubt his solo, which mimics Monte's, isn't as good. Like I said, Monte's hella talented with the shredding and finger tapping, Tommy less so. Do I care? No. They are different types of guitarists and both of them are very talented. For fuck's sake, Adam's hit the occasional flat note and he's still a great singer. The guitar solo starts around 3:07.

So what do y'all think? Feel free to post videos - I love great guitar-playing! And I love to discuss musicality of all types.
Oh, and here's the dorky-cute early Who boys: <3!
