worlds collide
compendium of the various original universes
verse; otherearth
Otherearth is a mirror of our days as we know them, albeit with a detail that plays a major influence in the setting: Others exist. The supernatural, the wicked, the damned, the angels, the saints, they have many names. A slightly darker version of our Earth, subdivided in alternative worlds. Souls exist as an abstract yet real context, although this is only known to those aware of Others.
Otherearth is the original mirror, a reflection of modern Earth. The Others keep themselves hidden from human lives, but some are aware of their presence. This particular verse has other dimensions that can be accessed by portals (tears), both to the Otherside, where darker Others live, or to another unknown dimension. Usually these tears are closed and common humans cannot cross them unless an Other pulls them in. Here, to lose a soul means its core shatters and the Other becomes vulnerable to death, but humans seem to have a very strong resistance to the core shattering, which is why their souls are so empowering to Others. Others are not only what we know as "dark beings" but also angels, albeit far from the biblical sense.
Otherearth: Verge is one of the original's Otherearth mirrors, which is distinguished by the fact that the realm of the Others is called the Underworld and it's the only dimension that exists, contrary to the original one. The portals to it are called Doors and they are always locked, however there are people who can open them, usually Eliminators, humans that have vowed to destroy the Damned, who can rage from the common ghoul to the more obscure devil. The Damned do have a soul (and here the "core" is non-existent), albeit theirs are of a different kind from humans, distinguished by the darkness engulfing it.
verse; 101 metropolis
The world as we know it - sort of. Unlike Otherearth, 101 Metropolis is a near future or a different present. Many storylines involve heavily the "sex, drugs & rock 'n roll" philosophy, since they revolve around the whole drama they bring, influenced by diabolical beings or virtuous ones. An era of magic and technology together.
101 Metropolis is a mirrored Earth, but this one seems to have a big advance in what comes to genetics and technology. It's not unusual to hear about a non-governmental project going on underground of people being turned into super soldiers. However, it's not just the science that's different, but also the fact that many beings besides humans exist, travelling from different realms to this one, given how easy it is to access it, though there aren't any portals around, but only people who can travel through space and time and realms (some of them powerful enough to allow others to travel along).
Usually, the unnatural (demons, angels) have great influence in men and women, acting a bit as a sin or virtue personification. There are also other non-human beings that may classify as a Metropolitan, that is, someone that's not from an outer realm, such as cyborgs, non-humans and half-breeds.
This verse does have a couple of non-existent cities, the biggest being somewhere in America, called Metropolis (hence the name). Each non-human being has their own characteristics and rules, be it a cyborg or a demi-god and depending if they are from another realm or not, in the 101 Metropolis verse, instead of abiding by one single "rulebook".
verse; parallel magics
In a world where magic exists, the rules are simple: do not cross the Roads. Just like Otherearth, Parallel Magics is a verse which happens to have various dimensions (Roads) that are easily distinguishable among themselves. The Roads can lead to either a world which is mainly medieval or to a world where technology and magic co-exist either in full harmony or otherwise.
Parallel Magics is not a world as much as it's a verse to set common rules among all Roads. It does not portals to other worlds as there aren't, in fact, any actual worlds besides that particular one, they merely follow the same guidelines.
Often, Parallel Magics will be an add-on to another world rather than a world itself. Sometimes it'll join a Myth story to give it an extra of originality. Myths are exactly what the word tells, stories inspired in worldwide mythology. Either regarding old and forgotten gods or telling the tale of magical beasts. This verse has various stories which are set in different locations, be it a medieval world full of gods and worshippers or a more of a steampunk environment where people soar the skies in search for adventure. The only requirement is that magic is a constant presence and a great influence in each and every one of them.
verse; neopantheonIt's the old "once upon a time" story, but the "once upon a time" eventually has to become a "later in life" to end up being a "today". And that's exactly what the Neopantheon is all about. Once upon a time, there were Gods and Goddesses and worshippers. Later in life, they were forgotten, abandoning their seats to live among mortals. Today, the myths of old are among us, living a life of glamour - and drama.
As a closed world, which means only one exists and nothing more, the Neopantheon verse has gods and goddesses of all different kinds of old gods, but strictly those who have been "forgotten" - Norse, Greek and other sort of legends like the Zodiac, all of them personified. It's a mix of basically every tale you've heard. The stars and the moons and the gods that were once worshipped long time ago are not forever stuck in time. They released their hold on important seats "up there" (or down below, whichever suits the deity in question) to live among the mortals that once worshipped them.
Of course, not everyone is particularly happy about this sort of events and there are people specialized in killing gods - people who were once blessed or cursed by the deities themselves, those who were once their champions are now forming societies dedicated to the elimination of these entities to leave the Age of Mankind clean and to the sovereignty of Man. But others, however, renounce to this vengeance and instead stay loyally by the side of the myths that are now reduced to fiction and stories for children.
verse; metaworldThe Metaworld is not as much as a new world as it is an alternative Earth where heroes and villains fight against each others, and while some protect, others create havoc. What plays an important role in this world is more the evolution of a gene inside some (un)lucky few that grants them powers, calling themselves metahumans, shunned by society for being so different - and potentially dangerous.
The Metaworld is traditionally a modern setting, which occurs in present time - as if an alternative dimension of our own Earth, although there are no other dimensions, being a closed world, unless a very powerful metahuman is able to created said plane, but so far, only one accident has actually proved the existence of another dimension, though it's unsure if one can come back or not.
In this particular verse, there is no story going on. In fact, the verse is simply a loose idea rather than a well built world, simply there to separate some characters from others and not have them bend to the rules of each other's settings.
In the Metaworld, metahumans are usually chased down by Catchers to be eliminated. They are a force which supposedly has no relation with the government, but rumours say otherwise, although it's not possible to prove anything. There are few schools around the world that harbour the younger metahumans from the Catchers and from their own powers, tutoring them in both regular classes - Math, World History, Science, and so on - and also focusing on helping them improve their powers until they are able to control them.
verse; alt.future
When years and years have passed, the future is then. Divided in two different possibilities, the future happens after two moments: the nuclear war circa the twenty second century and the climatical abnormalities it brought. There are no other dimensions even if there are two alternatives regarding said future, but they never meet. While one is greatly advanced, the other is more of a steampunk setting.
In alt.Future, parts of the world have recovered from the changes and most of humanity has been moved to Mars for safety reasons, given how unstable Earth currently is. This is the traditional future verse science fiction has accustomed us to - flying spaceships, great advancements in science, robots and technological superior to our common and current one; most of these advancements are destined to improve the military with the focus of preventing another nuclear war or at the very least, protect all innocents if necessary. Many soldiers have volunteered to become part man, part machine (cyborgs) and the weaponry has been massively improved as well.
The other side of the story is an alternative future called where Civil War is upon the world. The climate changes and the meteorites and the whole space trips have turned some people into mutants, making them governmental targets.
On the other hand, alt.Future-00 is more a deserted world with advancements but also loses when it comes to technology. Most of the cities have been destroyed and humanity was forced to live underground until the walking cities were invented, an old projected that survived the massacre of the past and was made reality. The walking cities began to be constructed and roam the world in search for power to keep on walking all over the world, in constant search for food, water, good conditions and always protecting themselves from meteorites, a common climate for the world. Some people have ventured outside of the stability of the walking cities to soar the skies with airships, either explorers or air pirates. Due to the nature of the nuclear war and the years that have passed, Earth is now an unexplored land with most likely many new parts.
verse; dark edge
The boogieman is real. Or, at least he does exist in Dark Edge. Like Otherearth, it is set in modern days, but with a darker side. Divided into two worlds (Dark Edge and Dark Mirror), this verse introduces to all the beasts nightmares are made of. They're real and they're out to get you.
In Dark Edge, there are parallel dimensions in which the monsters travel. They feed off of humans and infect their souls and blood if they need to. Vampires, werewolves, banshees, witches and all the creatures horror tales tell us about walk among humans shamelessly, even if rather hidden. And the few humans that are aware of the existence of the monsters under their beds either side with them or fight them. There are no "holy" beings, nobody to offer salvation, which means humans have to help each other... Or close their eyes and save themselves.
However, in Dark Mirror, we are told of a world where vampires rule - no other monsters exist for they were extinguished by the fangs themselves. This obviously means they were real, yet they are things of legends now. Unlike Dark Edge, this verse is closed, with no other dimensions to travel to.
