So The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe took first place for the weekend, pulling in over $67 million dollars domestically! I saw it twice this weekend. The midnight screening was packed and full of costumes, games, and anticipation. When I went to the theatre the next day, the first 5 screenings for the day were all sold out in advance already, and the theatre had just opened!
The film more than lived-up to my dreams. Aside from the completion of SW and Webber's Phantom of the Opera movie, this was the only other movie I ever cared to see onscreen. It was my second-most anticipated movie ever. There is no more insane hype inside of me for anything cinematically future from another filmmaker, because I've been completely quenched in the past six years, 3/5 of that in the past year alone!
I forgive Andrew Adamson for the Shrek movies, because this one is perfection. I have one small gripe involving a scene being slightly shortened, but other than that, this film takes its place permanently in my heart and mind. The legacy of high fantasy has continued; This year everyone was a bit sad not to have a new Lord of the Rings film to look forward to at Christmas (last year gave us the extended cut). But it doesn't matter, because this year we have this fantasy literary classic. But just like the books, as much as I respect and enjoy the LOTR, I much prefer the land and characters of Narnia. I must see this at least two more times in the theatre soon. The full-soundtrack release can't come soon enough!
I'll write a proper review soon...
